Spicy Sriracha Messy Burgers

“this is really good!”

“well of course it is silly, it’s your favorite”

“It is?…….ohhh yes of course! The um…ummm big, gooey, messy burger!”

“….also known as a sloppy joe”

“sloppy joe, riiiiight”

hey, 90’s babies, name that movie reference! 😂😂😂

for those of you who don’t know, it’s from It Takes Two, and if that doesn’t ring a bell for you then I have just shown my age hehe🙃 but whether you know the movie or not, these ✨SPICY SRIRACHA MESSY BURGERS✨ aka my take on a kicked up healthier version of a sloppy joe, need to make it onto your next dinner menu because they are ohhh so good!

these may be made with turkey meat, but the sauce is spot on - although a little spicy (just add less sriracha if you’re not into spicy)! these taste like the sloppy joe’s my mom used to make when we we’re younger. i was never super into them back in the day, but this recipe has created a new found love for me! either freshly made, or as leftovers the next night, these are a home run! an out of the park, over the fence, world series kind of thing…..(anyone catch that?! 😉)

WHAT YOU NEED for SLOPPY JOES:

(makes 4 servings)

+ 1 package ground turkey meat

+ 1 tbsp avocado oil

+ 1 white onion, diced

+ 1 red bell pepper, diced

+ salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste

WHAT YOU NEED for SAUCE:

+ 1/2 cup organic ketchup

+ 1/3 cup woodstock BBQ sauce

+ 1.5 tbsp sriracha (less if you want it less spicy)

+ 1 tbsp mustard

+ 1 tbsp Worcestershire

+ 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

+ pink salt & pepper to taste

ADDITIONAL NEEDS:

+ brioche burger buns

+ mixed greens

HOW TO:

  1. In a medium saute pan, warm avocado oil over medium heat. Once warm, add diced onion and bell peppers and cook for about 5 minutes or until soft. Add turkey meat and spices. Use a spatula to break up turkey meat. Let cook for about 7-10 minutes, or until all pink is gone.

  2. While turkey is cooking make your sauce. Whisk together all ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.

  3. Once turkey is cooked add sauce to your saute pan and mix well. Let simmer on low for about 10 minutes before serving.

  4. Toast your buns and layer with some mixed greens. Add sloppy joe meat and serve with sweet potato fries and my insane maple cinnamon sweet fry dipping sauce!
